Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that Juan Mata does
have a future at Old Trafford, following consistent speculation about
the midfielder’s prospects. Mourinho sold Mata when he was Chelsea
manager, and substituted him in the FA Community Shield when the
Spaniard had only come on minutes previously as a substitute himself.
The Portuguese is understood to harbor concerns about Mata’s pace and
ability to track back to help out at defense. But Mata started in
United’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Sunday, and now it appears
Mourinho has had a change of heart and wants to keep him. “One thing is
the stories people write. The other thing is the reality,” Mourinho said
to ESPN.
