Stella Odua's Son Is Dead

The senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Stella Oduah, on Friday lost her son, whose name had yet to be known as of the time of filing this report.Unconfirmed reports say the deceased was 28 and that he died at a private hospital in Abuja in the early hours of Friday.Oduah, who was a Minister of Aviation in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, sounded distressed on the phone when one of our correspondents contacted her on Friday afternoon. In a barely audible voice, she confirmed the report, saying her son died after a brief illness. One of Oduah’s colleagues, Senator Uche Ekwunife, who represents Anambra Central in the Senate, also confirmed the incident to one of our correspondents, saying she had been with Oduah to console her just like few other senators who heard about the “unfortunate situation.”Ekwunife said, “It is very unfortunate. It is only God who can console her.”Meanwhile, some well-wishers took to her twitter page, @Stellaoduah, to condole with her.One of them, Oladayo, who tweeted through @oladayo01, wrote, “Stella Oduah lost her son? 4 Ways To Graduate With Plenty Cash In The Bank

Let’s be frank…

Which of these situations will you say yes to?

A situation where you graduate with a lot of cash in your bank account, or a situation where you finish school with virtually nothing in your bank account?

For me it’s a big "Yes!" for the first mentioned situation as opposed to the second.

With enough money at hand after graduation you will be able to easily and conveniently move around, print your CV and credentials, buy recharge cards and internet data to browse job portals, and so on without having to ask daddy or mummy for money.

But more interestingly, if you are more inclined to starting your own business after school, the money can even serve as capital for business.

After studying a good number of persons who were able to graduate with substantial amount of money in their bank accounts, it became obvious that by making deliberate plans, a student can avoid becoming a flat broke fresh-graduate.

More clinical than Ronaldo - Milan are lucky to have brilliant Bacca

Carlos Bacca was pleased by the appointment of Vincenzo Montella as AC Milan boss.
"I'm very confident for the new season, with a coach who likes to play with the ball and play with purpose," the Colombian enthused. "I like that, because this way I could get two or three chances a game." For a striker who usually only ever needs one, that bodes well for the new campaign.
Despite playing for a woeful Rossoneri side that finished seventh in the standings, Bacca struck 18 times in Serie A last season. Twelve of those goals came from his first shot on target. He repeated the feat in Sunday's season opener against Torino before then going on to complete a 'perfect' hat-trick from just four shots on target as Milan recorded a 3-2 win at San Siro.

Bayern swap Pep for Ancelotti with eyes fixed on Champions League prize

Carlo Ancelotti has replaced Pep Guardiola as the Bayern Munich coach after three seasons of domestic domination under the Spaniard. Guardiola won the Bundesliga in all three of his seasons at the Allianz Arena – with two of those forming part of doubles – but fell down where it mattered most.
He was coaxed to Bavaria with a challenge by Bayern to give the club its own football brand and to capitalise on the success of Jupp Heynckes in the Champions League. That objective went unfulfilled.
The Bayern challenge took a lot out of Guardiola – he perceived certain questions about Bayern’s lack of progress in Europe as personal attacks – and he departed having made no real lasting connection with the club’s supporter base. Last year’s double – which came after a shootout victory against Borussia Dortmund in Berlin - saw Guardiola carried shoulder high by his players but there was never that warmth with the fans like Heynckes enjoyed before him.

Two games, no minutes - the time is now for Mourinho to unleash Rashford

Ask any Manchester United fan who had to sit through the miserable weekly ‘spectacle’ served up by Louis van Gaal last season for one bright spot amidst the pain and frustration and the unequivocal answer would surely be Marcus Rashford.
The young striker ended the 2015-16 campaign as United’s undisputed first-choice striker, despite having only been called upon by his Dutch manager when the club had nobody else to turn to after an injury crisis in the spring. Once he had 'discovered' the 18-year-old, Van Gaal couldn’t get enough of him.
That he now finds himself on the outside looking in on Jose Mourinho’s revolution at Old Trafford says more about United than it does about Rashford. And the clamour to barrack the Portuguese boss for the youngster’s exclusion says much about the lack of understanding of the bigger picture.

BREAKING NEWS: Buhari Seeks Emergency Powers To Tackle Economy

President to meet Saraki, Dogara

Bill to rescue economy ready

President Muhammadu Buhari will be seeking emergency powers from the National Assembly to push his planned stimulus for the economy.

The objectives of the action-plan on the economy, which is in recession, include shoring up the value of the naira, creation of more jobs, boosting of foreign reserves, reviving the manufacturing sector and improving power.

Government sources said the decision to seek emergency powers for the President was based on a proposal from the economic team headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The team reviewed the various policies so far introduced and how they have affected the economy.

The economic team, it was learnt, gauged the mood of the polity and decided that unless there is an urgency which some of the extant laws will not permit, “the recession may be longer than expected and Nigerians will not get the desired respite, which is the goal of this government”.

An executive bill titled: “Emergency Economic Stabilisation Bill 2016” is to be presented to the National Assembly when the Senate and the House of Representatives resume from vacation on September 12.

In the bill, the executive will be asking for the President to be given sweeping powers to set aside some extant laws and use executive orders to roll out an economic recovery package within the next one year.

Buhari will be seeking powers to:

abridge the procurement process to support stimulus spending on critical sectors of the economy;
make orders to favour local contractors/suppliers in contract awards;
abridge the process of sale or lease of government assets to generate revenue;
allow virement of budgetary allocation to projects that are urgent, without going back to the National Assembly.
amend certain laws, such as the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Act, so that states that cannot
access their cash trapped in the accounts of the commission because they cannot meet the counterpart funding,
can do so; and
to embark on radical reforms in visa issuance at Nigeria’s consular offices and on arrival in the country and to
compel some agencies of government like the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the National Agency for Foods
Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and others to improve on their turn around operation time for the benefit of
business.
The extant law on procurement does not allow contract award earlier than six months after decision. Part of this is a mandatory advertisement of the contract for six weeks. The economic team has found this to be unacceptable, given our present circumstance.

Although the president has the power to order the sale or lease of any government asset to raise cash, “the procedure is cumbersome and long”. The draft bill is meant to ease the process. The government source said about nine government assets may be leased or sold to generate around $50billion to shore up the nation’s foreign reserves and the value of the naira against the United States dollar.

The source said: “Nigeria may be broke at the moment but we are not a poor country, given our assets and capability.” About N58 billion is trapped in UBEC’s coffers because the states cannot access it as a result of the key condition, which is the payment of 50 per cent counterpart funding. The government is seeking an amendment to the law so that states will pay only 10 per cent as counterpart funding.

The objective is that state governments will have access to cash to develop education. This will facilitate creation of jobs since contracts will be awarded for the projects.

As for contract awards, the government, by the provisions of the law, cannot mobilise contractors with more than 15 per cent of contract sum. This is considered to be undesirable by the economic team given the pace the government wants to move in turning the economy around and in the provision of critical infrastructure. The bill will seek to allow the government to mobilise contractors with 50 per cent of contract sum.

The move to get government agencies to fast tract their operations is to enable foreign investors to come into the country without the current bottlenecks. Consular offices will now be expected to make visas available within 48 hours and visitors, especially tourists who intend to pick up visas at the entry point, will be able to do so. Time wasting at the airport with duplication of agencies screening incoming passengers is to be eliminated. Those leaving the country should go without hassle.

For the power sector, the government plans to truck gas from source to the power plants to enable them get what they need for generation. A government source said: “This may be more expensive but it is a price to be paid for Nigerians’ comfort”.

It was learnt that President Buhari will engage the leadership of the National Assembly before their resumption to solicit support for the bill’s quick passage.

Father Mbaka: "They Plan To Kill Buhari

Fiery Catholic priest, Ejike Mbaka, has said that plans are being hatched to murder President Muhammadu Buhari over his uncompromising stand on corruption.

In a video message obtained by PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Mbaka urged the devotees at his popular Adoration Ground in Enugu to desist from speaking evil against the president.

“So I want to tell you that so far, God is happy with Buhari. And him whom God has blessed, may you not try to accurse, because God will curse you,” said the priest.

“Many people are planning, as it is revealed, to kill him. There are many plans on how to eliminate his life so that corruption will continue, so that quantum embezzlement will continue.

“But the Lord says ‘God who put you there will not forsake you. Be firm, be resolute, remain focused, and be unbiased. Refuse to be intimidated and refuse to be distracted. Go ahead and war against evil. President Buhari, go ahead and war against corruption. President Buhari, God and his people are behind you, you are the answer of the prayers of the people, amen.'”

11 Types Of Neighbours In Off-campus Hostels

Today I'm talking about the types of neigbours found in Hostels, Off campus Hostels to be precise, Let's begin Note: It's not a generalization, most students fall under on of the following:-(1) The BorrowerThese set of neighbours are very friendly and nice at first, Then they reveal their true self when you become close to them, they start by innocently borrowing things from you, andyou being a good neighbor happily comply. but they see this as an invitation to keep borrowing your Stuff, even to personalobjects, It gets to a point where they just help themselves without asking you. the good ones return borrowed objects ina damaged state, while others don't return them at all(2) The Churchy NeighbourThese set of neighbours see themselves as the holy of Holy's, they don't mingle with others whom they tag as worldly people. their major concern is Church, Church, Church(3) The GladiatorThese set of neighbours are like kratos in The God of war video game, they keep fighting over little issues. everyone try their best to avoid their them.(4) The DJThese set of neighbours are well known for their habit of playing loud music, they always play the sound system with the settings on the highest volume, thus making it difficult for other people to sleep or concentrate while reading. they don't care if they're disturbing other people around.(5) The Yahoo Guy$$$$$$These guys are highly respected by other neighbours due to their financial level, they put on good clothes, have the most furnished apartments, drive good cars, and they know how to ball .....(6) The Party GoerTo These set of neighbours, everyday is Friday.. all they care about is Party, party party. and they are the ones who always return late at night and knock the gate for those inside to let them into the compound.(7) The Run townThese Set of neigbours are also known as hustlers, they get the highest number of august visitors... lol (if u know what I mean) most times the visitors stay over night playing (temple run) with them.(The Food hunterThese set of neighbours are really good at finding and devouring food, they secretly cook their food, but openly devour the food of other people, when you're cooking, they won't come into your apartment, but the moment the food is ready they will just stroll in and lie down on your bed....I don't know how they do it, maybe they use food detecting radar.....(9) The PsychoThis neighbor tends to keep to themselves. Their blinds are always shut and you never really see them except for the times that they are peering through the window at you. On the odd occasion that you do catch them outside, they will never return your hello, but instead give you a silent cold stare.(10) The GossipersThese ones are the BBC and CNN of the hostel, they know about the latest happenings withing and outside the hostel, they know those dating each other, keeping malice with each other, e.t.c, They pretend to be your best friend so that they can scoop information from you to give to their next victim,....(11) The Nice NeigbourThese set of people are nice and loved by all, they are well balanced.......

Akinade And Olufunto Married As Virgins!!

In these days when it’s unfashionable for people to wait for sex until marriage, Akinade and Olufunto kept their virginity until the big day or should we say big night. The couple, who are born again Christianschose to stick to their religious principles about purity and abstinence, met in 2012 during a seminar and did not hurry into a relationship. They said they prayed and waited on the Lord for 7 months before they began dating.7 months may be a long time to pray over a relationship, but they wanted to seek God's face before entering into whatwas potentially going to lead to marriage. Part of the reasons why marriages are failing so much these days is because the couple did not consult God before marrying. Both of them have strong personalities, so they took their time to get used to oneanother and to tune up. They worked hard to make the relationship work for them. Finally when Akin proposed, she gladly accepted, and the rest, they say, is history...

Lagos Govt Plans 50 Housing Units In Every LGA

Against the backdrop of the need to create new settlements, towns, boost socio-economic activities in rural areas and reduce rural-urban migration, Lagos state government plans to build 50 housing units in each Local Government Area of the state.

Disclosing this at an interview session with press men in his office, the state commissioner for housing, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, said the new policy of the state government is to build 50 housing units in each LGA across the state in order to create new settlements, towns and boost socio-economic activities in rural areas as a way of reducing rural-urban migration in the state.

Gbolahan who noted that Ambode administration believes in collaboration with LGAs as it is being done in other countries, pointed out that the state is constrained by its land mass, hence the resolve to develop the rural areas and their environs. He added however, that “If you want to reduce rural-urban migration, you must be able to stimulate socio-economic activities in rural areas and their environs. For instance, look at Epe, it is close to Lekki where we have the Free Trade Zone. So, people can conveniently live in Epe and Lekki which is just about 10 minutes’ drive to the FTZ”.

Explaining that the state does not have enough land to build more houses in the metropolis, the commissioner said “So, we cannot say we want to have 200 housing units in a place like the Lagos Island for instance. The area is already congested. This is why we must find a way around it.

“So, with 50 housing units in each LGA, and with our one-in-sixteen model that is on the way, it means we just need like three blocks to develop 50 housing units in each LGA. This means that we won’t need so much land for the houses. Again, because of the problem of productivity of workforce, we want people to live near where they work; while we are working on other social infrastructure. With that, we will be able to have growth”, he said.

Gbolahan who disclosed that Lagos land mass is just 3, 750 square kilometres, informed that “Now we have to go vertical way of construction in order to accommodate more houses and people. So, in our estates, we encourage four floors and as physical infrastructure facilities improve, we can move up to six floors. Our physical planning regime will change.

“When that time comes, the Physical Planning Ministry will adjust the policy of government where it says you cannot go above four floors in certain areas. Rapid population is a major concern. The growth rate is 2.8 percent; but is housing growth rate commensurate with population growth rate? The answer is no. So, we have to find a way of making the hinterland liveable, making economic activities expand to those places so that it will help in reducing rural urban migration”, Gbolahan noted.

On the 2.5 million housing units deficit in the state, the commissioner for housing who said about 600,000 people come to Lagos yearly, stated that it is for government to say can we do the 2.5 million houses in four years?

According to him, it is possible but it is a challenge, adding however, that where is the space? “Is the construction method of the 2.5 million houses going to be the same traditional way of construction? Are we going to use technology whereby we will be manufacturing homes? Our job is to build affordable homes, so we have to also look at the cost.

“As government, I cannot come out and say my one bedroom apartment is N10 million. So, we have to look at the cost of a unit. But if you are looking at the high end homes, then no problem because if that is what you choose, you should be ready to pay for the extras. But for the homes government wants to build which is to be made practical, we will have to continue to subsidise it. 25 per cent subsidy is already in those our LagosHOMS as the cost of infrastructure and land are already deducted.

“So, our prices are competitive. But on the 2.5 million houses in five years, the idea is this, the deficit we have now is 1.6 million; but for us to close the gap to forestall more deficit, we must be able to say lets put the deficit at 2.5 million. But with the way we build, only government funding with tax payers money, you and I know that it will be difficult because there are too many pressing needs for the state.

“Technology and private sector must come in to make this possible. We need primary and secondary mortgage banks to partner with us so that we can look at the mortgage and construction finance aspect of housing”, Gbolahan stated.

FIRS Seals Senator Akume’s Hotel Over N13.5 Million In Unpaid Taxes

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) sealed off the Haf Haven Hotel, located at 24 Atiku Abubakar Way in Makurdi, Benue State on Thursday. According to statements made the hotel, owned by Senator George Akume, was shut down due to unpaid taxes. Regina Chinazor Edeh, the leader of the FIRS enforcement team, said that the hotel owed N13.5 million in taxes since 2011 which includes unpaid company income tax, education tax, withholding taxes, and value added tax.
BY SAHARA REPORTERS, NEW YORKAUG 18, 2016
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) sealed off the Haf Haven Hotel, located at 24 Atiku Abubakar Way in Makurdi, Benue State on Thursday. According to statements made the hotel, owned by Senator George Akume, was shut down due to unpaid taxes.

Regina Chinazor Edeh, the leader of the FIRS enforcement team, said that the hotel owed N13.5 million in taxes since 2011 which includes unpaid company income tax, education tax, withholding taxes, and value added tax.

A management staffer of the hotel, Margaret Hinger, phoned Mr. Akume’s wife saying that Mrs. Edeh insisted that unless full payment of the tax liabilities was made the hotel would be sealed.

''I am duty-bound to seal off the hotel and am under instruction not to speak with anyone on phone. Please, pay the money, so we can leave your premises,'' Edeh reportedly said.

The team ordered the hotel to discharge its guests while staff closed for the day.

The hotel was subsequently sealed.

The enforcement team also shut down Treaties Bukka at Old Oturkpo Road Makurdi. According to the Warrant of Distrait, the eatery owes N52 million in Withholding Tax and Value Added Tax from 2013 to 2015.

The same fate befell Gwalina Suites Nigeria Limited, which owes N4.4 million in Withholding Tax and VAT.

Mahrez wants to continue Leicester 'adventure'

Riyad Mahrez has backed Leicester City to build on last season's title triumph after signing a new contract with the club.
The Algeria international brought speculation over his future to an end by penning a new four-year deal with Claudio Ranieri's side this week.

The Gunners' English trio were part of a boastful away kit unveiling at Emirates Stadium three years ago - but their careers have yet to take off amid the previous hysteria

“Before, we had young players like Fabregas and Nasri. Now, we have some good young British players for the first time in the group - Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, for example. My dream was always to produce 60 per cent English and 40 per cent foreign young players."
Four years on, Arsene Wenger's comments about Arsenal's 'British core' seem like a distant memory. Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson and Ramsey all signed new contracts in December 2012, with Theo Walcott following their lead over a year later. It was hoped that those five youngsters would go on to do big things in north London. There may still be time for that to change.

Lagos Ranks World’s 3rd Worst City To Live In

A report released yesterday by The Economist Intelligence Unit ranked Lagos as the third worst city to live, maintaining its position at the lowest rungs of the Global Liveability index.

Several other global reports had also said that Lagos, with a population of over 22 million, would in the next few years, become the 4th mega city in the world, with a population of over 30 million.

The city placed 138th out of the 140 cities ranked in the latest liveability survey, just above war-ravaged Tripoli and Damascus.

“Of the poorer-scoring cities, 13 continue to occupy the very bottom tier of liveability, where ratings fall below 50 percent and most aspects of living are severely restricted.

Should I Pay Him N500,000 For A Job?

I graduated since 2012 and have been searching for job since then. Though I stopped the search and I am gathering money from a small laundry business I am running to see if I could raise enough money to register to be a bet agent and start a bet shop this new football season, together with MMM hustle. On thursday last week precisely, I ran into an old course mate of mine who is now a customs officer, he was even on his uniform. I was surprised and inquired how he got into Nigeria customs knowing how difficult it is getting in there. He gave me detailed gist about an Hausa man who happens to be a top customs officer, he met three years ago in his business center, helped him got the job. We exchanged contact and he promised to contact the man to see if he could assist me to get one of the replacement slots.

The issue now is that he introduced me to the man as promised and I got to contact the man and he gave me his official email account and instructed I send my CV and photocopies of my credentials to him via email, which I did. Today he called me to tell me, he has 4 slots for replacement scheduled for October, (that some officers who are due for retirement will be leaving by the end of september) that I should pay him N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira),N50,000 (fifty thousand Naira) down payment and N450,000 when I get my appointment letter and start work. I contacted my friend and he told me I shouldn't worry, that he will loan me the N50,000 to pay him, but I should hustle the remind balance to pay him immediately I land the job.

My friend has sent the N50,000 into my account today to my greatest surprise, but I don't know where to get the balance N450,000 b4 the end of september and I don't want to go back to my friend that just assisted me with N50,000. I need advice if it is advisable to take a loan for such venture and where can one get such loan. Pls your opinion please, because I am kind of confused here. I need a job badly.

its a pity that the FUNAAB everybody knew is gone.. we now have a school in which Robbery case happens almost everyday..
we now have a school in which there is disorderliness among our Excos

we now have a school in which everything is now being postponed(inaugural, convocation, resumption)
we now have a school in which the academic calendar is no more straight...

what caused this morning protest was because, 2 hostels were robbed over the night(in which this is not the first time of its happening)
Adejoke hostel was robbed with Phones ,laptops and some valuables were carted away with a student seriously injured on his head..
This instigated the protest because this is not the first of its happening in funaab,it has become a regular routine in funaab environment with Robbers/burglers upsetting the peace of the students but the best the school could do is to fold their arms and look...
The road leading to the school has been blocked making it impossible for any vehicle to go in or out of the school..
The student union president popularly known as DENCO addressed the crowd at the protest and stated three things that would be done if at all the student would stop the protest
*NO ACADEMIC activities till a lasting solution is found

* School management should write a letter of commitment to the students off campus to show that they are also property of the school from hence forth

* The commissioner of police Ogun state should be presented at the protest right way .

If any of this three is not put in place the protest would move to the school..
Students are already moving to the main Express road(abk-Ibadan)

Is Abstinence Before Marriage A Realistic Message?"

"Is abstinence before marriage a realistic message?" Most people are going to have sex anyway, so why bother even teaching abstinence?

Many in the modern culture have declared that sexual morality is dead, that abstinence isn't realistic, but it is instead old-fashioned and outdated. Is abstinence before marriage even reasonable in today's "hook-up culture"?

Hydro Plants Boost Electricity Generation To 3,686.3mw

Nigeria has managed to attain electricity generation and supply of 3,686.3MW after several months of blackout occasioned by cut in gas supply to power plants.
It was gathered that the improvement in power supply is as a result of high water level at dams, which enabled the three hydro power plants namely, Jebba (360mw), Shiroro (600mw) and Kanji (440mw) to operate at optimal capacity.

Things Humanity Could Do Better Without Religion

I often see the argument posed by theists, and some atheists, that humanity somehow requires religion to keep from imploding on itself, and taking away religion would lead to widespread chaos and eventually doomsday.

I tend to strongly disagree.

This is a list of ways I think humanity could very likely be better off without religion now (specifically the Abrahamic religions and others with similar doctrines), supported by evidence I've come across.

Without religion:
1. Humanity could get along better. Tribalism is the blanket term to describe the innate human tendency to form alliances and groups against one another. More and more research is showing that tribalism can be overcome, and peace amongst people of different groups can be achieved, the more people are able to see a like-ness in one another. A "you are human just like me, I accept you, I feel comfortable around you".

Religion is a direct o

The former Manchester United defender believes the France international is not on the same level as the Chelsea man in terms of breaking up play in a holding midfield role

Ex-Manchester United defender Paul Parker has questioned where Paul Pogba will fit in at Old Trafford, arguing John Obi Mikel is a better holding midfielder than the France star.
Pogba recently became the world's most expensive player when moving to United from Serie A champions Juventus for £93.8m on a five-year deal.

The midfielder has assured that the Dream Team VI would emerge victorious in Rio to celebrate the birthdate of the tactician

John Obi Mikel has revealed that coach Samson Siasia’s ideal birthday gift is the Olympic football gold medal.

The Rio 2016 hosts face Honduras on Wednesday at the famous home of the nation's football as they seek the elusive gold medal

after slumping to consecutive goalless draws in their opening two games of the Rio 2016 Olympics, hosts Brazil roared back with a 4-0 demoltion of Denmark which changed the atmosphere both inside and outside the camp.

With confidence high and the fans back onside, the Selecao Olimpica sealed a safe passage to the semi-final with a 2-0 defeat of Colombia, exacting revenge for the 2015 Copa America final defeat which led to captain Neymar being sent off and earning a four-match suspension.
On Wednesday, Brazil host Honduras on the greatest stage of all, the mythical Maracana – the venue which eluded the Selecao at World Cup 2014 after their semi-final defeat to Germany.
One of the most storied stadiums in world football, the Maracana is place where legends are born.

It is where, in 2013, Neymar took centre stage in front of over 70,000 to lead Brazil to a famous 3-0 victory over then world champions Spain to claim the Confederations Cup title.
A demanding home crowd rediscovered their belief for the men’s football team over the last week and will have huge expectations against Honduras. The Selecao are now just two steps from the gold medal that remains the only major title still to elude the five-time world champions.

But Brazil will be aware that the Maracana can be an unforgiving venue. On Tuesday it ended the golden dream for the women’s team, who were defeated on penalties by Sweden.
It also played host to the greatest tragedy in Brazilian football history – the now infamous 1950 defeat to Uruguay which ended in a ‘Maracanazo’.

Rogerio Micale’s class of 2016 are hoping they will find more joy at the stadium, which will also play host to the final.
"It's a great pleasure to play at a stadium like the Maracana, which represents so much to Brazilian football," said Micale. "It will be a real privilege for myself and the team to contest such an important match on a stage like this."
But first of all they must deal with a stubborn Honduras side, who have already sent home tournament heavyweights Argentina and eliminated South Korea in the quarter-finals.
Physically imposing, organised and a threat on the counter-attack, the Hondurans are led by a coach who knows all too well how to cause some upsets.

Jorge Luis Pinto coached Costa Rica to a quarter-final finish at World Cup 2014, winning a group which contained Italy, Uruguay and England.
Striker Alberth Elis will be post a significant danger to a Brazilian defence that is yet to concede a goal at the games, as will the impressive Anthony Lozano.
The Selecao have strong Olympic memories of Honduras. In 2012 the Central Americans gave mano Menezes' side a real scare in the quarter-finals, twice taking the lead before Brazil triumphed 3-2.

2016 captain Neymar converted a penalty for what proved to be the winning goal that afternoon at St James' Park, Newcastle.
"I’ve been thinking about Neymar a lot and how we might attempt to control him,” said Pinto. “Brazil may well depend in some way on Neymar, but I believe it is not as much as people say.
“Of course he is a very important player for them. I've faced him five times and know his quality. Neymar is brilliant.”

‘It was a great day for Nigeria’ - Ladipo recounts how Dream Team shocked Brazil in Atlanta

Nigeria U23 would be hoping for a ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympics final when they face Germany at the Arena Corinthinas.
Victory for Samson Siasia’s side would see them face either Honduras or Brazil for the gold medal on Saturday in Rio De Janeiro.
Ahead the Wednesday’s showdown against Horst Hrubesch's team, president general of the Nigeria football and other sports supporters club, Rafiu Ladipo reminiscence to Goal how the country against all odds caged Brazil in the semi-final and went ahead to win the 1996 Olympics football gold.
“It was a great day for us, it’s a day that we should continue to celebrate and probably when you reminiscent you’ll want to know how you got there and then we can sustain that momentum. I remember we lost our to Brazil in the group stage, and we had the opportunity to meet them in the semi-finals and what happened has become history today,” Ladipo narrated to Goal.
“Brazil were leading us three goals to one and about 30 minutes to the end of the game, we were awarded a penalty and that would have been a relief. It was taken by Jay Jay and we couldn’t score. By that time, people wanted to leave the stadium but I told those who cared to listen that we are going to win the game, because my men and women of honour, patriots per excellence [supporters’ club] fasted throughout the tournament.
“When they were leading us 3-1, the coach pulled out Bebeto, he was going to reserve Bebeto for the final because he believed they had already won.”
He added: “Immediately we lost that penalty, a song came to me and I started singing ‘I have a father who never fails’. Everybody started singing and dancing even when we were still trailing 3-1, suddenly we scored the second goal and we continued with our. I remember then minister of sports, chief Jim Nwobodo left his VIP seat and sang together.
“In the 89th minute we scored the equaliser, making it 3-3 and everybody in the stadium including the whites were shouting NIGERIA! NIGERIA!!. We started the extra time and Kanu who was backing the goalkeeper, tapped the ball, turned round and flipped the ball into the left-hand corner of the goalkeeper and that made it 4-3. There was a goal rule then that whoever scores first wins the match.”

JAMB: ASUU Kicks Against Oloyede’s Appointment As Registrar

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has kicked against the appointment of former Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Ishaq Oloyede as JAMB Registrar, calling for his probe. Professor Is-haq Oloyede Professor Is-haq Oloyede It added that his era as Vice Chancellor was characterized with anti-democratic and anti-union antecedents. ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi while addressing journalists in Lagos said: “Given our inside knowledge of his anti democratic and anti-union antecedents, Professor Oloyede is the last person that we expected to be so honoured with a national appointment of that status in the education sector.” According to Ogunyemi, Oloyede ‘s anti-workers stance stood out in the case of the sacked UNILORIN 49. “He led the administration’s team to as far as Lagos to testify falsely against the workers before the Industrial Arbitration Panel,” Ogunyemi said. He said that when academic staff were reinstated in 2009 by the Supreme Court, Oloyede, as VC then refused to fully implement the orders of the Court. Ogunyemi pointed out that in 2008, Oloyede as VC said that UNILORIN is happy without ASUU, while at the same time collecting money from UNILORIN academics in the name of ASUU without remitting same to the Union. Ogunyemi who accused Oloyede of nepotism said: “As VC of UNILORIN, the system was manipulated to favour his son and daughter and within weeks, gave them awards for overseas training despite explicit regulations against the practice.” He also said that in May 2012, Professor Oloyede as VC, suddenly doubled the amount of pension being deducted from UNILORIN staff under the pretext that the deductions were not enough, adding that this was in contravention of the Pensions Reform Act which prescribed 7,5 per cent. The ASUU President said: “The above represent some of the reasons why the Union is appalled that Oloyede has been offered an appointment to head the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. “The Union has resolved to lodge an official complaint with the appropriate authorities and to demand investigation into the activities of Oloyede while in office as VC of UNILORIN. “

Naira May Appreciate To N300 Per Dollar – BDC Operator

Lagos – A Bureau De Change (BDC) operator, Mr Harrison Owoh, on Monday predicted that the Naira might appreciate to N300 against the dollar within a week. Owoh said the CBN’s directive to banks to sell $30,000 to BDCs weekly could be responsible for the imminent gain against the dollar.

In an interview in Lagos, the Managing Director, H J Trust and Investment Ltd., said seven banks had already done documentation for customers. According to him, the ongoing documentation process was why the Naira had not appreciated immediately. Owoh said once the banks were through with the documentation, the Naira would begin to appreciate against the dollar. NAN recalls that the CBN had fortnight ago, announced additional regulatory measures aimed at improving dollar liquidity in the economy.

Specifically, the apex bank directed authorised dealers to sell foreign currency cash to BDCs, subject to a maximum $30,000 per BDC per week. In turn, each BDC was required to nominate only one preferred authorised dealer through which it would purchase its weekly foreign exchange.

The authorised dealers’ selling rate to the BDC was stipulated at its purchase rate from its approved International Money Transfer Operator (IMTO). Also, the BDCs were required to sell foreign exchange cash to end users at its purchased rate and a maximum margin of two per cent. Last week, foreign exchange market witnessed sustained depreciation of the Naira against the dollar in all segments as foreign currency supply remained inadequate.

Isaac Kekemeke Suspended Over Tinubu’s Endorsement In Ondo

Akure - BARELY eleven days to the governorship primaries of the All Progressive Congress APC in Ondo state, the. Party Chairman Hon Isaac Kekemeke was Friday suspended for anti party activities by some members of the party.

An acting chairman Saka Yusuf was immediately appointed by the party members ostensibly acting the script of some aggrieved governorship aspirants of the party.

The crisis within the party deepened following the alleged endorsement of one of the 25 aspirants who collected nomination form by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The supporters of the governorship aspirants and leaders of the party literally sacked the state executive members by sealing off the party secretariat in Akure.

As early as 8am, the protesters from the 18 council areas of the state invaded and barricaded the secretariat along Oyemekun road in Akure metropolis chatting solidarity songs.

They displayed various placards which reads: "State Minus Kekemeke Equals Victory; No Impostor, No Imposition, No Endorsement; Kekemeke Is A Mole in APC; Kekemeke Is An Unrepentant Sinner; APC Plus Kekemeke Equals Failure," among others.

But in a swift response, Kekemeke who described his removal as a drama said that he would neither be blackmailed nor be intimidated by " some privileged members of the party who wants to hijack the party for their selfish interest"
"Those behind protest are those who want to impose their way on the majority, they are desperate members of the party that want to hijack the party.

Kekemeke described his sack as blackmail by privilege few who want their decision to override the majority. It's a drama that's good for the season.

But while addressing newsmen during the protest, their spokespersons, Tolu Babaleye, Francis Adelokiki and Gbenga Ajayi kicked against imposition of candidate ahead of the August 27 governorship primaries.

Babaleye accused Kekemeke of enforcing the endorsement of one of the 25 aspirants of the party as the candidate in the primary poll, as being directed by their National leader, Senator Ahmed Tinubu.

"Since he came back from Lagos, Kekemeke has made serious efforts to enforce the endorsement. Kekemeke openly informed the state executive committee that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has endorsed an aspirant and has instructed him to tell the leaders and delegates."

They also accused Kekemeke of undermining the chances of the party in the November 26 governorship poll, saying he "manipulated the delegate list of almost all the wards and local government areas in Ondo State.

Babaleye said that they have resolved that "That Kekemeke must not be allowed to conduct the primary election since he has compromised his office and that the list of delegates submitted to the National Secretariat is wantonly manipulated and is a cancer to a free, fair and credible primary election.

"That Kekemeke is hereby suspended to pave way for free, fair and credible primary election; that an officer of the party from the National Secretariat of APC in Abuja be appointed to conduct the primary election since Kekemeke has shown himself to be an unbiased person who cannot guarantee a free, fair and credible primary election.

"That as a prelude to the primary election of APC, a genuine delegate list used for the 2014 primary election of the National and State Assembly elections be made available to all the aspirants.

Meanwhile, Kekemeke in his response to an alleged endorsement of a particular aspirant by Asiwaju Tinubu said " "Let them face the real issue, let endorsement contend with endorsement, let money contend with money, let influence contend with influence, let mobilization contend with mobilization, and let us go to the field and elect whoever wins"

Police Seals PDP Convention Venue In Port Harcourt

BREAKING: Police seal off venue of PDP National Convention in PH

Barely four hours to the commencement of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, armed policemen has sealed off the Venue of the convention, sources confirmed.

It was gathered that all roads leading to the Old Presidential Lodge and the Deputy Governor Lodge are now blocked with Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).

The sources added that the Rivers State Government House is “partially sealed”.

They claimed to be obeying Abuja Court Order, which INEC said it had not seen as at yesterday’s night.

NEWSVERGE reports that Justice Okon Abang, of a Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, had suspended the convention stating that the suspension was in the interest of justice to both factions in the party in a suit pending before him and also to curb the excesses of some parties in the suit and to serve as a disciplinary action against those treating the court with levity.

In another ruling, Justice Ibrahim Watila of a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, had restrained the police, the Department of State Services and the electoral body from interfering or stopping the Port Harcourt convention.

The injunction, which was also gotten from the court by Senator Ben Obi, also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to supervise the convention.

The court on Monday restrained the Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Director of the Department of State Security Service, (DSS), the Director DSS Rivers State and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from interfering in the conduct of the party’s convention.

Meanwhile, the Abuja Judge held that Senator Obi ‘secretly went to Port Harcourt’ to obtain the said order when he knew he was a party seeking to be joined in the legal action filed by the Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff’s faction.

Sheriff’s faction had filed a case with the court to stop the Port Harcourt convention days after another court upheld his leadership of the PDP.

“Any court of coordinate jurisdiction which makes it a habit to grant ex parte injunctions against decisions made by a sister court is on its own,” he said.

In the case, Senator Sheriff had challenged the legality of the planned PDP convention and requested that the court should stop it on the grounds that it was being organised by a body not known to the law.

After suspending the convention, the court adjourned to the August 16 of for continuation of hearing.

Leadership crisis had deepened in the opposition party in May, after some members of the party removed Senator Sheriff as the party’s chairman and set up a caretaker committee to organise another convention where its principal officers would be elected.

After his removal, Senator Sheriff has continued to lay claims to the leadership of the party, saying that a court had issued an order suspending the convention before it was held.

He has obtained a court ruling upholding his leadership.

On Sunday, however, Senator Sheriff said he had received recommendations from the party’s reconciliation committee, but said he had also made his own demands which he would stand on.

Part of his demands, he said, was for the planned national convention to be shelved while arrangements should be made to hold a convention in Abuja that will be transparent.

After the court in Port Harcourt gave its ruling on Monday, the Ahmed Makarfi’s faction published a statement welcoming Party leaders, delegates, members, supporters, invited guests and observers to the planned National Convention.

I Will Report Corrupt Judges To NJC, CJN – Sheriff

Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator ‎Ali Modu Sheriff, has said that he will send a petition to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mahmoud Mohammed and the National Judicial Council against some judges of the Federal High Court in the country.

He alleged that some of the judges had demonstrated what he described as unethical behaviour.

He further alleged that the unnamed judges ought to be removed from the system in order to restore sanity to Nigeria’s judiciary.

‎Sheriff, who is currently contesting the national leadership of the party, spoke at an emergency press conference in Abuja‎ on Tuesday.

He said that he was shocked by the order issued by the Federal High Court in Port-Harcourt in which Justice Watila Mohammed validated tomorrow’s national convention in the state on the ground that the July 4 2016 which upheld the decision taken at the May 21, 2016 convention was still subsisting.

Sheriff was full of praises for President Muhammadu Buhari, who he said was able to identify the key problems with Nigeria’s Judiciary.

‎He expressed his frustration and disappointment on the ruling of the Port Harcourt division of the Federal high court.

Sheriff said, “‎We are shocked even with that ruling. All the judges in Nigeria are on annual vacation.

“We have been in court with all of them for the past one month on an issue that a judge went into in Port Harcourt which started on Friday; people went and filed court cases on Thursday and got an exparte motion, which has been frowned at by the judiciary for now.

“Most stakeholders in the judiciary don’t want exparte motion because it denies justice to others.

“But let’s accept that the judge decided to do that. The life span of the exparte motion is 14 days, which means you have time to serve the other people to respond.

“On that Thursday, the judge gave exparte motion. The next day he converted that exparte motion to interlocutory order. On Monday, he sat and heard the main case to give a ruling or judgement today at 2pm without allowing us as defendants to defend ourselves.”‎

Sheriff further alleged that “This morning, when our lawyers went to court, the judge authorised all the registry staff to run away.

“It took our lawyer, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to call everybody in Nigeria that this judiciary should not be destroyed. From 9am till now (4pm), they are receiving our own response to the application.

APC’S Welfare Package Commences Next Month - Vanguard Reporter

By Dele Sobowale “The only thing they APC didn’t promise was free jollof rice.”

Simon Kolawole, THISDAY, July 31, 2016, back page, in WE NEED ECONOMIC WAR ROOM.

Kolawole is one of the reasons for buying THISDAY. His economic analysis is always incisive and professional. Even when you don’t agree with him, it is almost impossible not to respect his point of view. Simon, though generally correct in that article made two minor errors.

First he assumed we don’t have an “economic war room” and that jollof rice was not part of the package of giveaways by the APC government which would have loved to have the Biblical Prodigal son as a member of that war room. That young wastrel certainly would have a thing or two to teach those who would spend N500 billion or eight ( per cent of this years budget on the idle and unproductive elements in society and far less on infrastructure or loans to farmers, and Small and Medium Scale enterprises. We have an economic war room. It is headed by a lawyer reminding observers about the square peg in a round hole syndrome. His assistants are people skilled in sharing cakes rather than devising how to bake them.

Naturally, the first item on their agenda is to tax the workers and small businesses already overburdened with high fuel and power surcharges in order to give to the unproductive so that they may continue being unproductive. If Kolawole looks closely, he will see that free jollof rice is a hidden component of the give-away programme. When N5000 per month is promised to unemployed people, some will undoubtedly spend the money on jollof rice.

Free money drives peoples’ appetite upscale. Real workers cannot anymore afford to even soak gari; they make do with roasted corn and pure water and return to their slave labours. And, they know that this government and its war room cabinet don’t give a damn about them. The Minister of Information, in one of the rare occasions when he spoke the unblemished truth announced recently that “There is no alternative (TINA) to Buhari’s economic programme”. TINA as a declaration is not original; neither is it brilliant. The first time TINA was announced was shortly after President Ibrahim Babangida introduced the Structural Adjustment Programme, SAP. Those of us old enough to participate in the public debate about SAP and who disagreed with its content were told then that “There is no alternative to SAP”.

History would record that SAP was a dismal failure launching Nigeria on the road to hyper-inflation from which the nation did not recover until after 2000. But, apparently, the more things change in Nigeria, the more they remain the same. Already, Buhari’s economic programme is heading in the direction which SAP followed. Exchange rate which was under N260/US$1 just a few weeks ago is now N400/US$1 and climbing by the days. It is destined to add imported inflation to the domestic one. Consequently, inflation which was under 10 per cent last year is now close to 17 per cent and will most likely surpass that level by year end.

Fuel price which recently jumped from N87 to N145 per litre is set to go up again; some speculate it might reach N180-200 by December this year. Added to the stubborn refusal of the power distribution companies to obey court order and revert to old tariff, consumers (excluding those in the corridors of transient power), mostly on fixed incomes are in for the toughest time ever experienced since 1984/5. Meanwhile, despite the inevitable harsh economic realities facing workers, the government announced last week that it all is set for the commencement of the Welfare Programmes promised during the campaigns. Many of us cannot wait for it to start.

However, before government starts dishing out the free food and giving out the free money, it certainly will not be too much to ask for total transparency in the disbursement of the benefits. Nigerians would not like free food to be distributed the same clandestine and corrupt way Central Bank jobs were secretly handed to those close to the corridors of power. Those claiming to fight corruption must be prepared to be totally open. As a minimum, Nigerians must be told who will be the beneficiaries of these programmes, how they were selected, where they can be located in order to verify the claims by government about performance later. Does this sound like no trusting government? You bet it is. After living long enough to experience governments headed by Balewa, Ironsi, Gowon, Mohammed, Obasanjo, Shagari, Buhari, Babangida, Abacha, Abubakar, Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan and Buhari again, it is clear that almost “Every government is run by liars and nothing they say should be believed”, I.F. Stone (VANGUARD BOOK OF QUOTATIONS p 80).

This particular government had created its own credibility problem about this programme right from the start. Shortly after assuming office, the President could not recollect promising to pay N5000 to unemployed people. His wife had to publicly plead that the promise be redeemed. Then, when the National Assembly requested for details which were not included in the budget submitted, the Presidency had to lean hard on the NASS to retain the entire amount in the appropriations. Obviously, some people are interested in the money and it might not be in the national interest. That is fine. But, let them for a start give us the list of schools nationwide which will be serving free food. Irrespective of how remote the location, we will go there to verify the claims. This is not going to be an easy “WAYO” game or swindle to pull off – if one is intended.

Effect Of Bad Economy On Our Health Care System...9ja Doctors' Perspective.

You know there was a period when the spread of blood borne diseases was at an alarming rate...when you go to a patent medicine dealer for injections, he boils his used syringes and uses it on new patients...little did they know that it was an ineffective way of sterilising materials used in hospitals.

Matter of fact there were public enlightenment programmes like injection safety classes which frowned at such practices...the teaching is you are not even supposed to recap your needles, you discard all sharps not to talk of reusing them.

In order to make this practice feasible, syringes became readily available and very cheap...this was well imbibed by the society and it brought about a significant decline in the rate of transmission of blood borne diseases like HIV, HBV, HCV.

With N500, you could get a carton of syringes (100 syringes with needles), you can afford to waste 10 on a patient and you wont even bother because it is just like N50, no sweats...as of this afternoon, a carton of syringes goes for N4,000...
‪#‎yawa‬#

I cant help but ask, where did we go wrong, what is happening? It is quite understandable that one has to buy a bag of rice for 20k, no wahala, we will manage but when it has gotten our basic medical needs like common syringes...would you be surprised if d hungry desperate patent medicine dealer goes back to the old ways of recycling used syringes so he can make profit?

Now how many people can even afford health care?
Many atimes you are just at work chilling, lets say you are less busy, your surfing the net with your pad, slamming Jidenna 'little bit more' with your Dre beats head phones, having a time of your life...next a surgical or medical emergency is rushed in, almost all of such cases do not have a dime on them but your obliged by your conscience and profession to save lives, so you have no choice...most times such patients get well and can't pay their bills, they stay as long as you allow then to stay, some run away, some stay for months in your hospital, get used to the hospital routine, they know the doctor consulting each day, know the names of all the nurses, become senior patients that welcome new patients and show dem around, friends and family come to visit them, their bed becomes a spot where relatives and friends come to kill tons of gist, some bring food, relax, watch tv and even encroach on other patients bed space.

When you look at the cost of keeping such a patient considering the nuisance plus the bed space he or she is occupying, you mite have no choice but to send the person home at your own loss.

What am I saying in essence, story no suppose enter some kine matter, no matter what, things like our immunisation programs, break in the cold chain because of erratic supply of power, stuff like that make you want lose your mind...

It is painful o,its like diabetes melitus, suffering in the midst of plenty,we are a rich and blessed nation yet the people are so wretched...

Well,to sum it up, lets stay positive,as long as there is life, there is hope...we have worked so hard to get here, lets be optimist no matter how bleak the future looks and keep praying that God should intervene in our pathetic situation!

Babangida's 75th Birthday Interview: "I’m Not The Evil Many Think I Am"

says I never stole $12.8 bn
Gen Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, retd, who attained the age of 75 today in his characteristic way of marking his birthday, had a session with members of the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Minna, Niger State where he answered questions on prominent issues that marked his life in public service.

He among other issues spoke on how he nearly experienced plane crash, the Nigeria Civil war, how he met and married his late wife.

You have been a military officer and a Head of State, which one was more challenging?

Being a military officer was more challenging than being a military President. As a military officer, you are leading men into danger, your life and their lives very much depend on you as the Commander. I see it as more challenging than being the President.

As a military President, you still have to seek people’s advice, you interact, you discuss based on the prevailing situation you find yourself but being the military officer and you are the only one with the troops you are commanding.

Their hopes are on you and if you read a situation wrongly, you will put everyone in danger. If they have faith in you, they will also protect you so I consider the military as more challenging than the political leadership.

You experienced the civil war. What experience can you describe as your toughest experience which perhaps resulted in a close shave?

I think it was the movement from Enugu to Umuahia. It was very tough and challenging. You need to be physically fit to be able to undertake such thing because we were moving on our feet and we had to go through the jungle, mountains, hills and others. It was the toughest experience I ever had but I succeeded and that was where I got my leg injury in August, 1969.

Since the demise of your wife, how has life been and how have you been coping?

It has not been easy but I thank God that I have children who show remarkable understanding and have been doing their best by trying to do what their mother had been doing. I also have a lot of grandchildren and they take most of my time.

How do you feel at 75?

I feel old because what I was able to do 25 years ago, I am not able to do it physically now but I thank God for sparing my life to attain this age.

What advice do you have for the younger generation?
I only have one advice for them and it is for them to play hard and pray hard.

Despite the prevailing security situation globally especially in Nigeria, many young ones are still interested in joining the Army. What advice do you have for them?

The basic elements still remain the same till now despite what we are going through. We joined the army for the purpose of being in the force to protect this country and that haven’t changed.

They also have to submit themselves to a constituted authority and they will have to undertake tasks or jobs assigned to them by the government and they should be expected to serve in any situation that they may be called upon to serve such as assignments that involve the Economic Community of West African States,ECOWAS, African Union,AU, or the United Nations, UN, among others. The army is a noble profession and it is a profession that requires a lot of courage.

You said recently that you would be giving advice to leaders and the younger generations. How does it feel doing that now as an elder statesman?

I feel good because you are not at the receiving end again. Based on one’s experience of the past, one can now be able to offer advice because you might have come across a similar situation during your time.

Looking back, which of the policies of your time do you wish was never misinterpreted?

I am not the evil that quite a lot of people consider me to be. I had a very excellent background and by training, we have to love one another. However, I can understand their feeling. But by virtue of the job I was doing, I was bound to be misconstrued and people will take it like that but I consider it as an opinion as long as I am not what you think I was, I feel satisfied.

I read somewhere some time ago that they said I stole N12.8 billion and I said if I stole such amount, I had no business staying in the country but those are the type of things that one has to live with.

I hope the younger generation will carry out a research about leadership, people, individual and what role they played in the development of the nation and come up with a different conclusion from what is on the ground now.

How do you feel when death rumours started flying around about when you are still alive?

It is not new, they have done it to Zik, Shehu Shagari and other statesmen, and it is not new. Whether I like it or not, I will still die, they are only stating the obvious. The only thing we do not know about death is that we don’t know the cause, time or the place. Regarding why some people describe me as a cat with nine lives, it may be because of my survival of some disasters which looked like miracles.

The first time I had such experience was in Lagos when we had a flight from one of the African countries back to Lagos and suddenly our engine developed a fault and from 29,000 feet, we came down to 15,000 but the good boys were able to control the plane.

We eventually touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The other engine just went off. My entourage before the sudden drop were drinking tea and coffee and shouting but when they heard about the development, there was silence as nobody was talking again. Even when I tried to cheer them up, I failed in the bid and that was the first time somebody described me as a cat with nine lives.

What would you do differently if you had another chance, either in your public or private life?

During my public life, there were a number of decisions we took as a military officer or as a political leader or ‘’when I was a dictator.’’ (Prolonged laughter).

If I have the chance again, I would have done it differently. For example, in 1989, we proposed that the National Assembly should be on part-time basis but the decision was not upheld.

I still believe that if I had the opportunity, I would make the National Assembly part time. I believe in that very strongly, it was all in an effort to cut down the cost of governance.

When you were young, you must have been very handsome. Also, looking at the photographs of your wife she was also beautiful. How did you win her heart or was it love at first sight?
While I was delivering the manifesto (proposal), there was one aspect she didn’t believe because she didn’t believe I was serious because of my reputation as a “play boy” (prolonged laughter). But I assured her that there was not going to be a problem because I was a changed person. Indeed, I had no problem solidifying the relationship because I knew her and I knew everyone in her family.

How did you ask her to marry you?

I was straight to the point. I told her bluntly that I wanted to marry her and that was all.

Was joining the Army the only option you had?
When I was young, my principal wanted me to go into administration. I personally wanted to go for engineering. Then politics came, the Minister for Army at that time, one Tanko Galadima from Bida came on a recruitment drive to my school, he wanted people from this part of the country to enlist into the Nigeria army because there weren’t many of them at that time. Then he asked how many of us were interested and a lot of hands went up thinking it was a joke, our names were taken and within a week, enlistment forms into the army were brought.

We sat for the exam, we deliberately decided to pass the examination because we didn’t want people to say we failed so we passed the examination, interview, medical test and aptitude test. We decided to go into the army because we had a strong backer in the Minister in charge of the army.

A recent report published on Premium Times reveals about 8000 Boko Haram members had voluntarily surrendered to its “Operation Safe Corridor” in the North-East as released by the Nigerian army through the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar.

The information was publicised at a lecture organised by the FCT Correspondents’ Chapel of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Changes no excuse for Sampaoli

The new coach has fallen to defeat against the two Spanish giants in his opening games, but he is determined to get a good result from Wednesday's clash at Camp Nou   Jorge Sampaoli might have to ring the changes for the second leg of the Supercopa de Espana against Barcelona, but the Sevilla boss is still determined for his team to make a strong impression at Camp Nou.
Sevilla could not build on a promising first-half showing as they subsided to a 2-0 loss at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday.
On the eve of Wednesday's return match, captain Vitolo, Hiroshi Kiyotake, Steven N'Zonzi and Franco Vazquez – all first-leg starters – did not train as Sampaoli cast an eye towards this weekend's LaLiga opener against Espanyol, while defenders Adil Rami and Mariano are nursing knocks.
"Our idea is to change some players because we have to play against Espanyol on Saturday," he told a pre-match news conference.

"We can't play with players that are injured. We will play with the players who are in best fitness.
"We will face many difficulties but if we're effective we can change the result. Hopefully we can do it."
Despite defeat on Sunday following extra-time heartache in the UEFA Super Cup versus Real Madrid, Sampaoli is pleased with how his side have acquitted themselves against the two heavyweights of Spanish football.
"We have some aspects to improve but we fought to control the ball against Real Madrid and Barcelona, to play against them is like a Champions League final," he said.
"We have changed our idea [of play] and time will say if we are right or wrong. I want that our fans can remember me not only by our results and also by our game style."

I started as executive chairman of Ondo State Waste Management Board, moved to head Ondo State Development Company Limited as executive chairman and finally, as commissioner in the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperative Services. Wherever I served, I discharged my duties with utmost dedication and unassailable integrity; notwithstanding the culture of greed, avarice and absolute disregard for the masses.”

Benue Water Project: World Bank And FG Begin Project

The Federal Government has begun implementation of the 2.5 million Dollars World Bank, assisted 3rd National Urban Water Sector Reform Project in Makurdi, Benue State.

The acting National Coordinator, Mr Fasoye Adewale, disclosed this at a meeting with Governor Samuel Ortom when he visited him at the Government House to extract political commitment from the state government for the project.

Governor Ortom and the General Manager of the Benue State Water Board, Mr Mike Zdungu, pledge their political and administrative support to see the project through, after 5.2 billion Naira was committed to the water project, by previous administrations, without adequate supply to the metropolis.

At the end of the meeting, officials spoke on evolving a sustainable water policy that will guarantee success, as the Federal Government seeks improvement of water sanitation in the state.

Apart from the seasonal flooding caused by heavy down pour and the rising water level, the River Benue serves a very useful purpose like marine training for the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering, local mining of building sand and fishing by the local Jukun tribes.

Other useful purpose of the massive River Benue, is the purification and treatment of the unclean water for domestic use for residents of the state.

Over the years, the challenges of water to the metropolis has been a daunting task. This is why the team from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources have stepped in.

The acting National Coordinator, Mr Fasoye Adewale also present the governor with keys to a Toyota Hilux van donated by the Federal Government to drive the project in Benue state.

Joys Oyedepo: "I Am Crazy, i'm Not A Walking Replica Of My Mother"

On Sunday August 12th, Joys, the last daughter of the founder of Winners Chapel Overseer, Bishop David Oyedepo, shared this photo along with a post where she described herself as "crazy".

"Those who know me know that I'm crazy. I don't blend in. I'm the one who's yingin' when everyone else is yangin'. I've been called an outcast by many outsiders. But the more I tried to fit in, the more I stood out. My differences wouldn't let me stay the same. Everyday, I've come to let the differences that make me, shine through.

Tired of the need to stay the same, I've come to accept the real me. I'm not the same. And as long as I stay rare, there'd always be a need for all of me. For there would always be room for rarity. I have decided not to let the miracle of my birth be the sole miracle of my existence. The proof, is in my crazy"

However, it seems the post didn't go down well with some people as she has been receiving messages from critics. Moments ago, she took to her Facebook page to clarify what she meant by "crazy" Read her post below:

"I 've recieved way too many personal messages about this post below and so for the honest few, I have chosen to make a few things clear.
It seems that many of us have misunderstood things too easily. You all have seen my posts for a while now, some of you have seen them for years on end, and you know that I absolutely adore my family.
That cannot, has not, and will not ever change. Anyone who tries to insinuate any different is purely looking for loopholes that just don't exist.
To that group, you may need to find more profitable work because that, already is a failed venture. Then, there is this other group that expects me to be EXACTLY like my mother or sister, who are role models to many including myself. especially myself.
Thing is, you also may need to edit your expectation because that too, will not be happening.
I'm me and will never be anyone else. can never be anyone else. and will not even try to.
I love that my sister and I are not walking replicas of my mother. she teaches us not to be. she teaches that we are who God has called us to be, and that, with all sincerity. our differences make us unique, and that makes us an epic loving family. that, we are grateful to God for.
Ps, "crazy" purely means/meant different. This, you would understand if you read through the post honestly, completely and some of us, without negative intent.
So, to those who honestly were confused on the original post, I hope you have recieved the needed clarity. But to those still looking for loopholes, sorry. failed venture.
Be you. Be who God created you to be. Yes, have role models (& you always can start with my mother and sister--right here on facebook even if you have nowhere else to turn). But don't ever try to dim your uniqueness to fit in with the "world's" definition of perfect.
God bless y'all
